Building a Home
In 1947, Lynn Kidd, a combat-wounded Purple-Heart recipient, was granted the opportunity to purchase a lot at Inlet Beach. The Federal Government made so many such grants to returning GIs that the area was known as Soldier Beach.
In 1952, Lynn, his father Earl and their friend Mr. Boykin built the family cottage at Orange Street and Highway 98. Melinda was five years old.

Loss of a Legacy
In 2001, the State took about 60% of our land by eminent domain and bulldozed the cottage to make room for the widening of US Highway 98.
(Dark green is what remains of our Lot 146).

Saying Goodbye
The second and third generations of the Kidd Family, including brothers Toby and Hunter, sisters Melinda and Meagan, and many of their children were on hand to say goodbye to our family vacation home.

Let us lose no more!
In 2015, developer Joey Steffen attempted to seize another 27% of our land, using the old government right-of-way to create a private drive to his subdivision. Strong opposition came from neighborhood associations, watchdog groups, almost 400 individual petition signers, and dozens of letters. The County Commission defeated his proposal.
Now, Inlet Beach Capital Investments is trying to carve out their own "county road for one". Removing the right-of-way will be a permanent way to stop these threats.
