Jean-Claude Orfali is a favorite of PianoForte Chicago’s owner Thomas Zoells for good reason. His ability to create infinite variations of musical themes, the delightful technique of embellishment and emotion, have captured his audiences from Paris to Montréal, Cairo to Chicago. A longtime principal pianist at the Lapin Agile, he will begin our evening of homage to Yves Mathieu, the late owner of the Cabaret Lapin Agile.
The Lapin Agile is the oldest extant cabaret room in Paris, the birthplace of cabaret as a gathering place for musicians and artists. So many of us associated with the Cabaret Connexion have had the honor of participating in the ongoing late-nights of song and camaraderie. We will celebrate the family legacy carried through by Yves Mathieu and now his sons Frederic and Vincent with songs and a short video montage by Christine Steyer and Jean-Claude Orfali.
